SEAHORSE WINERY
JERUSALEM MTNS, ISRAEL
A Creative Force in Israel’s Judean Hills
Seahorse Winery is a boutique winery founded in 2000 by winemaker Ze’ev Dunie.
Known for its dedication to artisanal, high-quality wines, the winery captures the essence of the region’s rocky hills, mineral-rich soil, and Mediterranean climate.
Dunie, a former filmmaker, brings a creative and hands-on approach to winemaking, experimenting with traditional French and Mediterranean varietals that thrive in Israel’s sun-drenched vineyards.
Artisanal Winemaking Philosophy
Seahorse Winery is committed to minimal intervention, embracing natural and sustainable viticulture practices. Dunie’s philosophy emphasizes organic methods—no pesticides or herbicides are used—and promotes healthy vine growth while enriching the soil. Grapes are handpicked, and each wine is crafted in small batches to ensure quality.
The winemaking process focuses on preserving the natural flavors of the grapes, with wild yeast fermentation adding complexity and a sense of place to the wines. This method allows the wines to express the unique terroir of the Judean Hills, from the mineral notes of the limestone-rich soil to the herbal nuances of the Mediterranean climate.
Unique Varietals
Seahorse Winery has built a reputation for producing innovative, high-quality wines that reflect the uniqueness of Israeli terroir. As the winery continues to push the boundaries of Israeli winemaking, it remains dedicated to craftsmanship and creative exploration.
They are also known for producing a range of unique varietals, including Zinfandel, Syrah, and Chenin Blanc.
These varietals are part of Dunie’s creative vision, blending French and Mediterranean influences with an Israeli twist.
